Several years after the Hot Coffee mod for GTA: San Andreas was released, it looks like the public outrage was mostly generated by political panderers, sensationalist media and opportunistic lawyers. Most gamers just don't give a shit:

Any buyer upset about hidden sex in the violent game could file a claim under a settlement the lawyers struck with the game’s makers, Rockstar Games and its corporate parent, Take-Two Interactive. Of the millions of people who bought the San Andreas version after its release in 2004, exactly 2,676 filed claims.

Picked up a copy of GTA4 last night at the local GameStop's midnight release, got home by 12:30, and only played for about three hours. This whole "work" thing is getting in the way of loftier pursuits.

Rocking a thumb blister, plus a sore left shoulder and claw.

Just wanted to say, for those who have an Xbox360 or may be considering buying one, Mass Effect is a really, really good game. The cinematic sequences (of which there are many) are almost entirely generated realtime but look fantastic. All PC and NPC dialog is recorded (by actual actors, even). Everything about it is simply beautiful, except for pretty lame inventory management and trading interfaces. Also, the elevators aren't nearly as bad as Penny Arcade led me to believe.

Bastard kicked the bucket when I tried to play my brand new copy of Bioshock.

And no, this couldn't have happened a month ago when I needed to focus on my dissertation, or a month from now when I need to focus on my new job. >:-(

As you might imagine, the /. thread on this news is even nerdier than usual.

Anyone else playing Bioshock? If not do whatever you have to do to get ahold of this game (short of software piracy, robbing old ladies is cool though). So far in my playing there is no flaw to the game. It is the most beautiful game I have ever seen, the voice acting is seriously good, the setting and atmosphere is the coolest thing I have ever seen, and the game play is amazing.
